Yayoi Kusama at Wellington City Gallery

Today was an astounding success for art viewing, as I went to the City Gallery and saw Yayoi Kusama's exhibition: Mirrored Years. The space was filled in various sets, obsessive silkscreens of grand OCD-style sketchbook drawings, large amoeba forms filling space in gallery rooms and polka-dot fever. It was an interested retrospective of work from an artist who, it seems, struggled to make it big in her early years on the New York boho fluxus scene... but then again maybe no one really did in that genre. Her hippy/flux roots are evident in the installations, and the whole thing is weighted with the knowledge that this artist clearly struggles, but not necissarity suffers, with psychological battles which may or may not relate to psychedelic drug use, but would have certainly made interactions with her work that much more trippy, indeed... Here are some pics then I'm going to bed!
